The FAO Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is part of the FAO Locust Watch monitoring and information systems managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The commission was established in 2002 and now has 10 member countries from West and Northwest Africa: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, and Tunisia.

In the ‘front line countries’ of North and West Africa (Algeria, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Chad), national desert locust control units are crucial for monitoring outbreak-prone areas, primarily in remote desert regions away from cultivated lands. In Sahelian countries, these units operate independently and were established by the FAO's EMPRES program, which began in West Africa in 2006.

To support these units, member states initiated CLCPRO to advance all activities, research, and training needed for effective locust invasion prevention and control. Together, CLCPRO and the national units now fulfill the responsibilities previously managed by the Organisation Commune de Lutte Antiacridienne et de Lutte Antiaviaire (OCLALAV) (est. 1958) for desert locust in North and Northwest Africa. CLCPRO also replaced the Commission de lutte contre le criquet pèlerin en Afrique du Nord-Ouest (CLCPANO) (est. 1971).

The aim of CLCPRO is to bring together West Africa and North-West Africa to promote preventive locust and grasshopper control at the national, regional and international level. This includes supporting research and training and coping with invasions of the desert locust in the region. CLCPRO is crucial in ensuring that all member countries remain actively involved in executing preventive control strategies. To help member countries stay prepared for emergencies, CLCPRO offers support in capacity-building, institutional development, and financial resources.

CLCPRO is expanding its membership beyond the current 10 countries by adding three new countries (Gambia, Cabo Verde, and Cameroon).
