Situation bulletins are a category of resource on HopperWiki that relates to alerts and newsletters or notifications designed to give situation updates on an outbreaking species of locusts, grasshoppers, and sometimes other migratory pests.
For the most accurate information and the current status of locust outbreaks around the world we recommend you subscribe to the following bulletins:
Excerpt from FAO Locust Watch Locusts in Caucasus and Central Asia website. "Locusts and grasshoppers are serious threats for agriculture in Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA). Three locust pests, the Italian (CIT), the Moroccan (DMA) and the Migratory (LMI) locusts, jeopardize food security and livelihoods in both regions as well as in adjacent areas of northern Afghanistan and southern Russian Federation. Over 25 million hectares of cultivated areas are potentially at risk."
Summary from the website: "The Australian Plague Locust Commission (APLC) produces a monthly Locust Bulletin during the seasons of locust activity (spring, summer and autumn). The Bulletin gives regional summaries of the locust situation and weather events of potential significance for locust development. It also provides a forecast of likely developments for the next three months (or from autumn to spring) for the Australian plague locust Chortoicetes terminifera, spur-throated locust Austracris guttulosa, and the migratory locust Locusta migratoria".
Follow monthly reports on transboundary outbreak pest species. Bulletins usually include updates on the follow species:
Desert Locust (Schistoserca gregaria), Red (Nomadic) Locust (Nomadacris septemfasciata), African Migratory Locust (Locusta migratoria migratorioides), Malagasy locust (Locust migratoria capito), Tree Locusts (Anacridium spp.), Central American Locust, (Schistocerca piceiferons), South American Locust (Schistocerca cancellata), Italian, Moroccan, and Asian Migratory Locusts (LMI), Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), African Armyworm (Spodoptera exempta), Quelea spp.
