Category:Bioregions 2023

From HopperWiki

Bioregions 2023 is the biogeography framework used by non-governmental organization One Earth. The hierarchy in this system has four layers:

  • Realms, many of which have been split from their traditional definitions (for example, the Nearctic realm is split into Subarctic America (Upper Nearctic) and Northern America (Lower Nearctic).
  • Subrealms, the first-level division of realms, and contain bioregions.
  • Bioregions, the second-level division within subrealms that contain ecoregions.
  • Ecoregions, the lowest-level division used as individual biogeography units.

Individual ecoregions are categorized into 14 biomes, which are the same as those previously defined by World Wildlife Fund for their older biogeography framework.

HopperWiki uses a combination of the Bioregions 2023 framework and the traditional biogeographic realms designated by Miklos Udvardy, with the polar and subpolar regions that lack any Orthoptera species excluded.
