The Nearctic realm is a biogeographic realm that covers most of the continent of North America.
It shares both land and maritime borders with the Neotropical realm to the south.
Geography
Biogeography
In the Bioregions 2023 framework used by non-governmental organization One Earth, the Nearctic realm is split into the Northern America (Lower Nearctic) and Subarctic America (Upper Nearctic) realms.
Political geography
The countries of Canada, the United States (except Hawaii and southern Florida), and Mexico (excluding the Neotropical zones); and the external territories of Bermuda (administered by the United Kingdom) and Saint Pierre and Miquelon (administered by France) are all located in the Nearctic realm. Greenland (an external territory of Denmark) is also included by definition, but does not have any breeding Orthoptera species.
