Template:Sandbox infobox
A scratch pad for designing new infoboxes. It looks exactly like the real vertical infoboxes (Species, Resource, Organization and so on), but you type every value yourself, so no data pipeline or Lua is involved.
Use it to storyboard a new or changed infobox on a sandbox or user page. When the design is agreed, a developer turns it into a real, data-driven infobox. Don't use it on article pages. Every page that uses it is listed in Category:Pages using Sandbox infobox.
Example

The top of the box
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
title |
The bold title bar. Defaults to the page name. Use italics for scientific names.
|
subtitle |
Optional. Smaller text inside the title bar. |
theme |
Colour scheme: species (the default), organization, resource, geography, project or user.
|
image, caption |
Optional. The main image under the title. The caption appears when you hover over the image. |
The body: numbered lines
Each number is one line of the box. Lines appear in number order, and numbers may skip, so you can leave gaps (10, 20, 30 …) to make room for later insertions. The type of each line depends on which parameter you fill in for that number:
| You write | You get |
|---|---|
header5 |
A coloured section heading |
subheader5 |
A lighter sub-heading |
label5 + data5 |
A two-column row: label on the left, value on the right |
data5 on its own |
A centred row across the full width |
label5 + list5 |
A heading with a bulleted list under it. Separate items with semicolons (;). Lists longer than 5 items collapse behind "Show more"; change that with list5_threshold.
|
image5 + caption5 |
An image partway down the box, e.g. a status graphic |
If a number has more than one type filled in, only the first in this table is used.
Colours
The theme sets all the colours, but you can override the title bar and headers. Give a hex code (#4a7a3a) or a colour name (teal). The box adds its usual top-to-bottom shading for you.
| Parameter | Changes |
|---|---|
title_color, title_text_color |
The title bar's background and text |
header_color, header_text_color |
Every header |
header5_color, header5_text_color |
Just header 5. Overrides header_color.
|

| Colour test | |
|---|---|
| Uses header_color | |
| Row: | Value |
| Its own colour | |
If text is hard to read on a light background, set a dark text colour.
Tips
- Keep labels to one or two words ("Regions:", not "Administrative units of the region:"). Put the detail in the value. Longer labels wrap onto a second line.
- For lists or long values, use
labelN+listNrather thanlabelN+dataN. The label then gets its own line and the value uses the full width of the box. - Values can contain links and other wikitext. To put a literal pipe character in a value, write
. - To copy an existing infobox, list the rows you see on a real page, then add, remove or reorder them.
- There are numbers 1 to 100.
