It shares land borders with the Palearctic realm to the north, and maritime borders with the Australasian and Oceanian realms to the east.

Political geography
The countries of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam are located entirely within the Indomalayan realm; along with the British Indian Ocean Territory and the Australian territories of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Pakistan all have significant portions in this realm; and small areas of some ecoregions extend into Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
