The Afrotropical realm is a biogeographic realm spanning most of continental sub-Saharan Africa, nearby islands, and the southern Arabian Peninsula.

The countries of Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, the Central African Republic, the Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, the Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are located entirely with the Afrotropical realm. External territories in this realm include the French Southern Territories (excluding the Antarctic claims), Mayotte, and Réunion administered by France; as well as Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha administered by the United Kingdom.
Chad, Egypt, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Yemen have portions in both the Afrotropical and Palearctic realms.
